Welcome to the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair Human Development and Culture of Peace.
The UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair is the first and historic UNESCO Chair established within the University of Florence in 2006 with Chairholder Paolo Orefice, Emeritus Professor of General and Social Pedagogy at the University of Florence.
On 30 April 2025 the agreement between UNESCO and the Chair was renewed until 2029, with a new Chairholder Giovanna Del Gobbo, Professor of Experimental Pedagogy, new program and a new team.
The transdisciplinary perspective, connected to challenges of complexity and sustainability, represents the pillar on which the Chair pursues to consolidate an integrated system of research, training, dissemination, documentation and networking.

“Educational Challenges of Energy Sustainability”: a meeting for exchange and reflection within the framework of the 2026 Sustainable Development Festival. Monday, May 18, within the framework of the Interclass Master’s Degree Programme in Pedagogical Sciences and Management of Education for Sustainable Development (LM 57-85), the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair “Human Development and Culture of Peace” promotes the event “Educational Challenges of Energy Sustainability”, as part of the 2026 Sustainable Development Festival.
The UNESCO Chair “Human Development and a Culture of Peace” at the University of Florence Internationalisation and Cooperation Day. The UNESCO Chair “Human Development and a Culture of Peace” took part in the Internationalisation and Cooperation Day of the University of Florence, held on 14 May 2026 at the Social Sciences Campus.
Towards a Sustainable Future: the BIP “Education Toward a Sustainable Future” Wraps up! The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled “Education Toward a Sustainable Future” successfully wraps up, with the enthusiastic participation of 29 students from various European universities.
World Earth Day: the UNESCO Chair with BIP students. On World Earth Day, the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair “Human Development and Culture of Peace” of the University of Florence is engaged with 30 students from various European universities as part of a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) entitled “Toward a Sustainable Future”.
WATER QUALITY MEANS... Un dialogo su equità, gestione delle risorse e partecipazione femminile per la Giornata Mondiale dell’Acqua. The Chair will participate in the event WATER QUALITY MEANS..., a dialogue on equity, resource management, and female participation on 25 March 2026, in celebration of World Water Day, which takes place on 22 March 2026.

The UNESCO Chair will take part in the closing event of the REACT project, a study day devoted to exploring scenarios and strategies for the recovery and enhancement of the Casentino cultural landscape.
