Abstract of Professor Marco Fioravanti:

The forestry and timber supply chain is complex, extending beyond its biological dimension to encompass the socio-cultural systems with which it forms a single, co-evolving entity. From a systemic perspective, classifying productive functions and ecosystem services as separate entities can lead to serious imbalances, which can be detrimental to one system relative to the other. When developing models of sustainable management, it could be beneficial to draw on traditional knowledge systems that have historically balanced socio-economic and environmental factors, acknowledging the interdependence between forests and communities.
